Whether visiting or having a staycation, extremely cool people enjoy spring break in Duluth, MN. Here’s why. The weather is warming up, which means there are tons of things to do outside. (finally) It’s really beautiful in Duluth right now (sunny and above freezing). There’s still quite a bit of snow, so your first stop should probably be Spirit Mountain. If you think they only cater to skiers, you’re wrong. They have a whole adventure park!
We also have an array of restaurants (see our Area Guide for a list of options) and attractions that are entertaining. Or how about both? Check out Grandma’s Sports Garden for great eats and live boxing!
There’s also the DECC (Duluth Entertainment Convention Center) just down the road from Canal Park Lodge. Concerts, shows, hockey… Check out their event calendar.
Now, if you’re not afraid of the dark and looking for something you really can’t find anywhere else. How about a flashlight tour of Glensheen mansion! This brand new tour is offered for a limited time, so hurry and get your tickets soon.
And finally, thanks to VisitDuluth.com, here’s a nice list of a lot of other exciting events in Duluth, Mn this month (and beyond). Visitduluth.com/events/calendar.php
Beat the cold and enjoy the copious amounts of snow here in Duluth, MN. We’ve had an unusually snowy winter already and the colder temps often mean clear blue skies! Stay with us at Canal Park Lodge and you can even get discount Ski & Board lift tickets! For more information on Spirit Mountain’s Ski & Board trails, lifts, etc., check out their website: Spiritmt.com/ski-board
We finally hit the mountain bike trails at Spirit Mountain and it was jaw dropping. First, the lift ride up was amazing. These photos don’t do it justice. I can’t even imagine how breath taking it will be when the leaves start turning.
It’s a little odd putting a bike up on the lift instead of skis…
These trails are brand new and really well made. Right now they have four downhill mountain bike trails (Candyland, Smorgasbord, Happy Camper, and Blaster). A couple are beginner/intermediate level, and one is definitely for the more experienced. For those seeking out a technical ride that’ll challenge you, try Smorgasbord and Blaster. For those who’ve never done anything like this, check out this jump!
We highly recommend visiting Spirit Mountain while you’re in Duluth, MN. Even if you don’t bike, they have all kinds of adventures. Take a look for yourself: http://www.spiritmt.com/
Finally, (don’t laugh) taking a video while riding is not recommended, nor is it easy… Watch at your own risk. Those susceptible to motion sickness look away!
I’m always amazed at what new adventure has sprung up in Duluth. Maybe this is normal for native Duluthians, something bright, shiny, and new every year. I’ve lived here roughly 14 years, back when Bentleyville was in Nathan Bentley’s backyard, before Spirit Mountain had a Timber Twister, way before pirates invaded (Tall Ships), and so on. However, it’s still surprising for me to learn something really awesome is coming to Duluth. This is probably why we’re getting noticed. Here’s a nice article we just came across today. It names Duluth, MN as one of the top 5 summer vacation spots. “Duluth packs a lot of surprising summer adventure…“ http://www.theadrenalist.com/adventure/top-5-summer-adventure-vacation-spots/
So what is bright, shiny, and new this year? Well probably a lot of things, but the one I’m thinking of right now in this perfect sunny weather is Spirit Mountain’s new mountain bike trails. Here’s a great article about it if you want more information (plus a great photo/action shot). Bike Trails Open at Spirit Mountain*Did I mention these are lift-access downhill trails!!
A large part of Minnesota, including Duluth, just got another dusting of snow… (some may say we got dumped on, shhhhh haters)! In some parts of the country March is the beginning of spring, but lets face it, for Minnesota it’s more like, “here have some snow, and maybe a little bit more, and maybe even more… You like snow on top of your snow, right?”
Fortunately, March is warmer, often sunnier, and it’s the best time for snow bunnies to vacation here! So, dash away that cabin fever and enjoy what I’m coining “Snow Bunny Month” (ok don’t google that…)
Unless you want to see cute rabbits in the snow!!)
Seriously though, this is a great time to book a winter vacation. Spirit Mountain offers more than just great skiing/snowboarding, their adventure park is amazing (for all ages). Canal Park’s Adventure Zone is in walking distance from Canal Park Lodge (wall climbing, mini putt, batting cages and much, much more). Think you’ve seen it all? How about the brand new Canal Park Brewery, just next door.
Embrace these last few weeks of winter (it’ll go faster)!
