Fall is here and we’re gearing up for a great season. Don’t miss out on what Duluth has to offer this time of year.
Take a train ride up the north shore! (Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays)
Enjoy the changing colors as you travel to the historic town of Two Harbors, Minnesota.
Take the whole family to the Adventure Park at Spirit Mountain and enjoy their Alpine Coaster, Zip Line, Mountain Biking, Scenic Lift Rides, Disc Golf, Mini Golf, and more.
*Note, come Halloween the alpine coaster turns into the Terror Twister, with haunted coaster rides.
Get your costumes and head to Boo at the Zoo. This event is great for the whole family, Saturday, October 10th & 17th, 2015, 10 am – 4 pm. Lots of treat stations, hayrides, face painting and more. http://www.lszooduluth.org/visit/events/boo-zoo/
And finally, not for the faint at heart, tour the haunted ship. The William A. Irvin will be transformed, starting October 2nd, 2015. http://duluthhauntedship.com/
There’s a new event in Duluth this fall that combines three very different things.
- Hot Air Balloons
- Craft Beer
- 5k Color Run
While you can’t enjoy them all at once, if you timed everything right, you could enjoy all three!
Check out their website for details: kernz.com/balloon/
Summer is full of fun in Duluth, MN. Don’t take my word for it though, last year we were voted one of the best places to live and the best outdoor town! The reason is easy to see since we’re living in a city that stretches 26 miles along Lake Superior, has nearly 7,000 parks, about 200 miles of wooded trails, and multiple trout streams. It’s no wonder we want to be outside!
Here are some upcoming outdoor things you may not want to miss!
If you’re a mountain biker you’ll be happy to hear Spirit Mountain is expanding it’s downhill mountain biking and COGGS is building the Duluth Traverse, a 100 miles of bike trails (scheduled to be completed by 2017).
Glensheen is doing a lot of new and fun stuff, concerts on the pier, bonfires and new tours. http://glensheen.org
The Greater Downtown Council is putting on Movies in the Park again. Grab a loved one, a blanket, picnic basket full of popcorn and enjoy the show on the shore of Lake Superior.
August 15th and 16th, enjoy over 180 artist and entertainers from all across the US at the Bayfront Park Art Fair.
Or, for those true outdoorsmen and women, there’s the Sasquatch Scramble Obstacle 5k at Boulder Lake. The slip-n-slide sounds fun, I’m not so sure about the mud crawl…
And those are just a few things to do in Duluth, MN. Stay with us and we can recommend all kinds of adventures in our great city!
The Purple Martins are here! We’ve teamed up with the Audubon Society to have this special Purple Martin house built so these endangered birds would have a place to colonize in Canal Park. Besides being beautiful birds with a purplish hue, they are great insect eaters (look out flies, wasps, and winged ants).
Here they are in our Purple Martin house here at Canal Park Lodge.

It’s an unusually warm and sunny spring here in Duluth, MN, which makes it the perfect time to visit. The summer season hasn’t hit yet. There aren’t many tourists, no bugs, easy parking, quick seating at restaurants. At the end of the day you can unwind and take in the view on our new patio, just built last summer. Nights are still a little chilly, so it’s the perfect place to gather around the fire, listen to the waves crash onto the beach. Before you know it summer will be here and Canal Park will be bustling. Take it from an experienced Duluthian, last year at this time we were still shoveling snow, don’t miss out on this sunny, warm Duluth spring.
